On
Monday, November 16, Grade 6, 7, and 8 students in the Talented and
Gifted (TAG) Program took part in an after school STEM Day. Students
worked in teams to design, build, and compete with their edible cars.
Each group was able to choose 2 axels for their cars, 6 pieces of
adhesive, 1 body, and 4 wheels. Car part choices included cucumber
halves, Rice Krispy treats, hot dogs, bananas, gummy life savers, Oreo
cookies, donuts, mini marshmallows, gum drops, large pretzel rods, small
pretzel rods, and pasta noodles. Congratulations to 6th graders, Ashton
Lonce, Alison Soriano, Jack Weddle, and 8th grader Henry Alexander on
creating the edible car that went the farthest! Thank you to TAG
teachers, Hope Hamblin, Sarah Martin, and Kristina Johnson, for their
leadership and facilitation in this activity!
As always, please feel free to contact me at chenlc@lcps.k12.va.us if you have questions, concerns, or anything that you would like to share.
The following are some important updates and announcements.
Announcements
Morning Announcers – Kendall Hyer and Hailey Kerstetter
Kendall Hyer and Hailey Kerstetter did an outstanding job with morning announcements. They were clear in their delivery of messages, and they enunciated each word with great accuracy. Without
their help, Morning Announcements would not be as fun, enjoyable, or
even as informative! From Monday, November 23 to Tuesday, November 24,
we will have two new guest speakers to assist us with the announcements:
Harmony Key and Austin Libby.
CATS Club
The CATS Club is currently collecting new socks for the Louisa Santa Council. Please remind your child to bring in a pack of new socks and place them in the Turkey located in the library. It is our goal to stuff the turkey with socks until Tuesday, November 24.

Career Cruising
Guidance counselors, Annie Floyd and Sarah Porter, began working with students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 who are enrolled in Trevor Gallo's classes on a pilot classroom guidance lesson related to careers. Students are utilizing a web based program through the Career Cruising website to help them explore career and college opportunities and to later develop their Academic and Career Plans. During these lessons, the school counselors will present information on Career Clusters, provide students their log in and account information for the Career Cruising program, and begin career exploration based on their interests. The guidance department will use information from this pilot to help them better understand how best to implement the program school wide the school year. More information about this program for all students will be sent home with your child as the time approaches.
