LCMS Team Players for the First Nine Weeks
Every nine weeks, teachers nominate two students, one male and one female, whom they believe truly exhibit the qualities of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, citizenship, fairness, and caring. Then, the High Expectations Correlate selects from those who have been nominated to earn the privilege of being Team Players for that nine weeks. These students will be served a special lunch provided by the LCMS administrative team and will have their photos with accolades posted in the cafeteria. We are extremely honored to announce this nine weeks’ Team Players. From 6th grade, we have David Perry, Jacob Werner, Macie Knighton, and Brenna McHugh. The 7th grade students are Keirsten Shifflett, Victoria Moore, Jahiem Poole, and Jayshawn Santiago. Team players from the 8th grade are Tylyn Pugh, Megan Hall, Tabraisha Comfort, Ethan Barnes, and Ben Froschauer. These students will be served their lunches on Friday, October 31 during their lunch shifts. Thank you to Kristina Dragland and Laura Watkins, the High Expectations Co-Chairs, for spearheading such an event!

Online Safety Presentations
Rebecca Baughman (Librarian) and Deputy Nathan Harris (Resource Officer) presented online safety to all Grade 7 students. In this presentation, students were shown several videos from www.netsmartz.org and discussed with both Rebecca Baughman and Deputy Harris how to be safe on the internet. The following videos were shown and discussed with our students. You may wish to continue our dialogue with our students to ensure their safety online at home.

http://www.netsmartz.org/RealLifeStories/SurvivorDiaries This video tells the stories of teens who have met predators online and then met with them in person.

http://www.netsmartz.org/RealLifeStories/YourPhotoFate This video shows students what can occur if sending an inappropriate photo.

http://vimeo.com/25511034  This video shows students what could possibly occur if posting personal information.

Ms. Baughman also reinforced with students how to stay safe when using the internet. Students found both the websites and their discussions with Ms. Baughman and Deputy Harris informative and helpful.

Seeking LCMS Coaches for Odyssey of the Mind
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and world level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program. This year, we are looking for coaches to help us with those students who might be interested in participating in Odyssey of the Mind. LCMS Science Fair
The primary purpose of the Science Fair is to provide students with the skills necessary to be successful in high school, college, and eventually their careers. To be successful in the collage and the modern world, students must learn to think independently. Secondly, to be successful in AP and Honors classes in high school, students must be able to write research papers that start with a thesis, which is substantiated by their own findings. To facilitate the development of these skills, students are required to submit a complete project that includes an original idea, research to back their thesis, and conclusions that require them to analyze their results in light of their research findings. Additionally, we hope that through this process students will foster an interest in science and engineering. We hope that you will help us celebrate our students’ involvement in the science fair at the LCMS Science Fair Awards on Wednesday, February 1, which will be held at the LCMS Forum at 6:00 p.m.
